Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP)

September 2nd, 2015, Public Meeting

Choteau, Montana

The Badger-Two Medicine, 165,000 acres of public wildland and designated Traditional Cultural District adjacent to Glacier National Park and the Blackfeet Reservation, needs your help now.

For two years the Federal Government’s Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) has held a series of consultations with designated consultants, including proponents of oil and gas development, Blackfeet Tribal and State Historic Preservation Officials, as well as the Glacier-Two Medicine Alliance.  The purpose of these “Section-106” sessions has been to seek agreed-upon mitigation prior to beginning oil and gas development in the Hall Creek Drainage of the Badger-Two Medicine.  The Blackfeet have held throughout that there is no mitigation that can compensate for the unavoidable desecration that extractive industrial development would cause.

The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) will hold a final and public hearing this week to help consider how to advise the Forest Service regarding proposed drilling in the Badger-Two Medicine.

Here are the details:

WHAT: On September 2, 2015, the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) will offer a public meeting in Choteau, Montana, to receive stakeholder and public comment on the effects on the proposed release of the currently-suspended “Permit to Drill” on historic properties in the Badger-Two Medicine portion of the Lewis and Clark National Forest, Montana.

WHEN: September 2, 2015, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Stage Stop Inn, 1005 Main Ave. North, Choteau, Montana.

HOW: Due to the high level of public interest in this case, priority for speaking at the public meeting will be given first to the designated representative of the FS, the Blackfeet Tribe, the Montana State Historic Preservation Officer, and Solenex LLC, and then to those who notify the ACHP of their desire to speak in advance of the meeting. Please provide the speaker’s name and the organization the speaker officially represents (if any).
