Roadless Rule Comment Writing Night

September 9, 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Learn why keeping the Roadless Rule matters. Then take action to protect wild backcountry areas, wildlife, and healthy intact ecosystems.

join us on September 9, 2026 for a comment writing night about the Roadless Rule!

Join us for a night of learning and advocacy in the Flathead.

Date: September 9, 2026
Time: 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Where: Sacred Waters Brewery Wild Side room, Kalispell, MT

The Forest Service has proposed to eliminate the Roadless Rule, which would strip protections against road building and commercial logging from the Badger-Two Medicine and tens of thousands of acres of national forest lands along the Middle Fork Flathead river. More than 44 million acres of national forest lands nationwide stand to lose protection. Make no mistake. The proposed rescission isn’t about better forest management. It’s about turning our shared public lands over to private industry to develop for corporate profit.

We’ll discuss what the loss of the Rule could mean for special places like the Swan Front – the Flathead’s scenic backdrop, or the Whitefish Range, for wildlife, backcountry recreation, and clean drinking water, as well as provide suggestions you can use to craft your comments.

You can write a letter or submit comments electronically right at the event (we’ll have a few computers available but encourage folks to bring their own if they can).

Please join us for an urgent night of action. Together we can protect what we love about Montana: wild places, healthy wildlife populations, and the freedom to roam.

Our goal, in collaboration with folks all across America, is to generate a million comments by the September 21st public comment deadline telling the Forest Service to keep the Roadless Rule.

Drinks provided for comment writers.

Registration not required.

This event is a collaboration between American Rivers, Glacier-Two Medicine Alliance, Mtn Mamas, National Parks Conservation Association, North Fork Preservation Association, and Wild Montana.
